What is the Best Approach to Create Users or Roles Instead of Directly Working with Core XMPro Tables?

There is a requirement to create users / roles, etc., and to insert / update records in XMPro core tables ( say fcUser ..etc ), what is the best approach to meet the functionality?

Is there is any suggested / recommended approach to do such operations say an interface / API that can be used instead of directly working with core XMPro tables using insert / update database queries?
