Multiple – File Upload Functionality in v6.6

How Can We Help?

< Back

Background

The multi-file upload functionality can be used with the older versions of XMPro, but it requires a consultant to install and configure the functionality first. It is not part of the installation.

In version 6.6, this is now built-in functionality.

Configuration

This section details how to configure and use the multiple file upload functionality in XMPro 6.6.

  • Create an object group that will be used to upload and display multiple files.
  • Add the following controls in the same order as shown below to the Object Group:
    • File Attachment – used to capture the filename, for example ul_1234567_FileName.doc
    • Reference Label – used to capture the actual file name, for example FileName.doc
    • Simple Text Box – used to capture comments for each uploaded file
  • Navigate to the Object Group configuration window and expand the Options group. Set ‘Allow Multi Upload Page’ property to True as shown below:

  • In the 6.6 site.config, a new key <add key=”DisableMultiUploadPage” value=”False”/> has been newly added. The value of this setting must be set to False for the Multi File Upload functionality to work. When the site is first installed, the default value is True, i.e. Multi File Uploading is disabled site wide.

How to use the functionality

  • When all the above values are set, the plus icon in the Object Group will always function as the Multi Upload feature instead of adding a new line.

  • To start uploading multiple files, click on the plus icon and a new window will appear as shown:

  • Click on the Browse button to select one or more files. Add comments if needed.

  • Click on the Submit button to upload the selected files.
    • Once the files have been uploaded to the server, the user will have the option to ‘Add more files’, or to Close the window and return to the activity.

Please Note:

  • Deleting a line from the Object Group works the same.
  • Comments in the Upload window are not mandatory, but this cannot be hidden.
  • Other controls can also be part of the object group. However, it is mandatory that the File Attachment control, reference label and text box be in order and in the object group. If they are not in order, an exception will be thrown and the files will not be added to the object group.
  • The Reference Label can be replaced by a text box.
  • Reference label and text box can be hidden, but should be part of the object group for the file upload to work.
  • IMPORTANT: Although the selected files have been uploaded to the server, the files will not be associated with the activity/task and process until the activity/task has been submitted/saved.
